A silver color metal and enamel device 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in width overall consisting of a silver disc bearing a brown and white bald eagle, in flight above a golden orange crescent; attached below the disc a blue scroll doubled and inscribed "TIME TO SOAR" in silver.
Ultramarine blue and golden orange are the colors traditionally associated with U.S. Army Aviation. The eagle symbolizes the strength and mobility of Army Aviation and recalls the unit' motto "Time to Soar." The crescent is adapted from the South Carolina State flag and stands for traditions and heritage dating back to the Revolutionary War and the unit's National Guard mission.
The distinctive unit insignia was approved on 24 January 1992.
